From 8pm to the early hours of Sunday, Alleluya Band and Mlaka Maliro kept patrons on their feet at Club 24/7 in Blantyre. The show was organised to mark the opening of a liquor shop at Club 24/7, with the proprietor MacDonald Soko indicating that they invited the Balaka-based band and Mlaka of the ‘Dzanja Lalemba’ fame to make the occasion a memorable one.
“People always support us and we wanted to give them a memorable time hence inviting Alleluya Band and Mlaka Maliro. This is a great place, and because we want to give people special things, we tried to make this day special,” Soko said.
Taferakaso paved the way for Mlaka, who did not disappoint either, going straight into business by performing such songs as ‘Dzanja Lalemba’, ‘Amayi’, ‘Nditengedwa’ and ‘There’s No Wine’ (Vinyo Watha).
Fans even made requests for songs, and Maliro did not disappoint but did the needful.
When Maliro was done with his performance in the early hours of Sunday, Njobvu ya ku Balaka’ Paul Subiri took to the stage, offering an array of songs, among them those he did with Rod Valamanja.
Mr Entertainer Jai Banda officially marked the opening of the liquor shop in the midst of a performance by Maliro, popping champagne, to the merriment of those that turned up at the event.
Mlaka took advantage of the event to pay homage to Mr Entertainer for promoting music in the country and described him as the best promoter in Malawi
