Stage Drama to be Resurrected
In the quest to bring back to life its glory that many Malawians gave to the Association for the Teaching of English in Malawi (Atem) for its great organization of stage drama, Atem has launched a new programme to be training drama teachers.
Atem president Davie Mpasu, said that they have introduced this programme in order to fill up the spaces that were there in the stage dram field and bring it back in a professional way.

Mr Mpasu says that the programme will be teaching the trainees on how to direct, write script as well as acting.
He further say that Atem went down because of financial crisis as they lacked sponsorship. “Back in the day, we had various corporate sponsors who made sure that the drama festivals were a hit. Now we lack basic financial support t carry out our programme that can ensure improved productions,” he said.
Hence, Atem is appealing for support from the government and the private sector. The seminars target drama teachers and patrons from each of the country’s six education divisions.
Emmanuel Maliro one of the products of Atem also added that Atem is an important aspect in promoting english drama in Malawi, and that also after the trainings, Atem will start to organise yearly drama festivals that will include all school members
Atem is credited with producing some of the country’s English dramatists such as Flora Suya, Du Chisiza Junior, Frank Mwase and Maliro
