WAZ ARTS TO BRING THE BWABWALA PLAY TO BLANTYRE

After successful adventures in Lilongwe and Mzuzu, Waz Arts takes its political satire titled Bwabwalala, to Blantyre on Sunday.

Nation Publications Limited (NPL) journalist Suzgo Chitete, who is the brains behind the production, said Tuesday they were overwhelmed by the corporate support they have received ahead of the show.

“We are raring to go and we are thankful to the companies that have supported us so far. Amaryllis Hotel is the official partner and then we also have companies such as Hallmark Creations, Gazette Media, Phazi La Mkango and Salima Sugar Company who have supported us financially to meet some administrative costs,” he said.

The show, to be hosted by Deus Sandram, is also expected to feature poet Tawonga Taddja Nkhonjera as a curtainraiser.

Amaryllis Hotel has shown its attachment to the creative industry by opening its doors and it has hosted several events in recent times, including a stand-up comedy featuring United Kingdom-based comedian Daliso Chaponda.

Chitete said the political satire was inspired by the happenings on the political scene between 2019 to date and that through it, they are providing an artistic commentary of the issues with a view of helping people appreciate the issues especially on the governance front.

The play, Bwabwalala is a family saga centred on two brothers – pursuing common interest yet with selfish reasons. They have not been close before but until an opportunity presents itself, they find a reason to forge an alliance.
