Tuimani 2022 festival launched

Tumaini Letu which spearheads the annual free-of-charge Tumaini Festival held at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa, last Friday launched the 2022 edition with a Cocktail Night at Orchid Café in Area 12 in Lilongwe.

The festival aimed at raising awareness about Dzaleka Refugee Camp which houses 53,000 refugees and asylum seekers will this year take place on November 3rd through to November 6.

A press statement from Tumaini says the funds raised at Orchid will support the Youth Engagement and Behaviour Change, one of the programmes Tumaini Letu runs within Dzaleka throughout the year.

Tumaini Festival founder Menes la Plume hailed people for turning up for the event and that the performers put up impressive acts.

“Let me say thank you to all those who patronised this event. Their presence has played a great role, and we promise a colourful Tumaini Festival this year,” Menes, who is also an artist said.

One of the musicians who performed at the event, Joram Nyirongo, said the platform helped him contribute to the plight of refugees at Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

“This was an amazing moment for me. Tumaini Letu makes sure that refugees at Dzaleka are living peacefully with Malawians,” Nyirongo.

Other artists, who performed at the event included Sam Shaba, Sage Poet and Welce, La Perle.
